Weather Hotline: 513-852-9011
YMCA Youth Sports Philosophy:
Provide youth an opportunity to participate in an environment that fosters fair play, sportsmanship, teamwork, development of new skills, fun and the concept that everyone wins.
Sportsmanship:
Coaches and players are expected to conduct themselves as positive role models at all times. If the official hears a coach or player using profanity or verbal abuse on the court during the games then the coach or player will be consulted by the official and the official will give them a warning and a technical foul. If the official for verbal abuse or profanity consults the coach or the player a second time, then the coach or player will be ejected from the game and will sit out during the proceeding game. The official will write up an incident report regarding the ejection of the player or coach.
Parents are also expected to conduct themselves as positive role models at all times. If the official hears a parent using profanity during a game then the official will grant the parent a verbal warning. If the parent continues to use profanity and verbal abuse during the game then the parent will be dismissed from the gym and will be asked to leave the building.
Before the Start of game:
The officials will instruct players and coaches on court rules and sportsmanship.
General Game Information:
Teams should arrive 15-minutes before game time. There will be a five-minute grace period after the hour. After the grace period is over, the official has the right to call the game if a team doesn’t have the appropriate number of players. Scores will be kept. Each game will have 4 10-minute running quarters with a 2 minute half time. Clock will only be stopped in last two-minutes of the game. Games will be played on a 10’ ft goal with a regulation women’s size basketball. Each team receives two 30-sec timeouts per half. No Overtime.
Substitutions:
Free substitutions are allowed only in the second half of the game once everyone has played at least one full quarter. You must go to the scores table to check in. No one is allowed to play the full game. Equal play for everyone should happen.
Jump Ball:
Jump balls are only used at the beginning of the game. Teams will alternate possession at the half and for any jump ball situations.
Fouls:
A. Personal Fouls: 5 – player is removed from the game.
B. Team Fouls: 7= 1 and 1 10= double bonus
C. Technical Foul: 2 shots and the ball
Free Throws:
Free throws will be taken from the normal line and players may not enter the lane until the ball hits the rim.
Defense:
Each team can play man-to-man or a zone defense. The defense can only pick up the offense at mid-court. Full court pressing is allowed only in the last two minutes of each half. Once the full court press has begun the offensive team has 10 seconds to cross the mid-court line. The leading team must pull off a full court press if they are up by 10pts or more.
