YMCA Youth Sports Philosophy:
Provide youth an opportunity to participate in an environment that fosters fair play, sportsmanship, teamwork, and development of new skills, fun, and the concept that everyone wins.

Sportsmanship:

Coaches and players are expected to conduct themselves as positive role models at all times. Any use of profanity or fighting during the game will result in dismissal from the game or league depending on the severity of the matter.

Before the Start of game:

Teams will have 15-20 minutes to practice before each start of the game. After practice time is up coaches will immediately bring first 5 to the middle of the court to begin their game.

General Game Information:

Each game will have 4 quarters consisting of 6-minutes per quarter with a running clock and no stops unless it’s taking awhile. With no half-time. Games will begin 15-20 minutes after the practice begins. A YMCA official will be in charge of the time clock and whistle.  No Overtime.

Substitutions:

Every player must have an equal amount of playing time each game and no player will be allowed to play an entire game. No substitutions can be made during a quarter. They can only be made between quarters or for an injury. Each player must play at least one full quarter before another can play a second full quarter; each player must play two full quarters before another can play the third quarter. Each player should play three full quarters before another can play a fourth.

Court Rules:

Parents should sit in the bleachers of the court. Once a player has possession of the ball, the players must stop and allow the defensive team time to set up before proceeding to the basket (no fast breaks). There is no stealing from the offensive player in procession of the ball during this transition. Traveling and double dribbling calls will be made with the discrepancy of the official. Players will not be penalized for these mistakes but instructed of what they did wrong and the ball will be given back to the offensive team.

There will be no jump balls or free throws. Offensive picking is not allowed.

Rim height will be 7’. Junior size balls will be used.

Defense:

Each team must play man-to-man defense. Players will use colored wristbands to match up on defense. There will be no double-teaming or fast breaks. There is no stealing off the dribble or pass. The defense may pick up the offense at the white line above the key.

Scoring:

No scores will be kept.

Use of the playing facility:

No food or drink except for water will be allowed in the gym.
