YMCA Youth Sports Philosophy:
Provide youth an opportunity to participate in an environment that fosters fair play, sportsmanship, teamwork, development of new skills, fun, and the concept that everyone wins.
Sportsmanship:
Coaches and players are expected to conduct themselves as positive role models at all times. Any use of profanity or fighting during the game will result in dismissal from the game or league depending on the severity of the matter.
Before the Start of the game:
The official will instruct players on sportsmanship and fair play.
General Game Information:
Teams should arrive 15-Minutes before game time. There will be a five-minute grace period after the hour. After the grace period is over, the official has the right to call the game if a team does not have the appropriate number of players. Teams that have ten players must give each player 2 full quarters of playing time. Each game will have 4-quarters consisting of 8-minutes per-quarter with a running clock and with a two-minute half time. Ball Size- 28.5. Rim height is 9’. The clock will be stopped in the last 2 minutes of the game (fourth quarter) for fouls, and out of bounds. No overtime.
Substitutions:
Each player must have an equal amount of playing time each game and no player will be allowed to play an entire game. No substitutions can be made during a quarter. They can only be made between quarters or for an injury. Each player must play at least one quarter before another can play a second quarter; each player must play two quarters before another can play the third quarter. Each player should play three-quarters before another can play a fourth.
Court Rules:
Parents should sit in the bleachers. Each game will be officiated by a YMCA official.
Jump Balls:
Jump balls are only used at the beginning of the game. Teams will alternate possession at the half and for any jump ball situations.
Fouls:
A. Personal Fouls: 5, player is removed from the game.
B. Team Fouls: 7, on seventh team foul, 1 and 1 is in effect. 10, on the tenth the double bonus is in effect.
C. Technical Foul: 2 free throws and possession of the ball.
Free Throws:
Free throws will be taken at a modified 13’ from the basket. Players may not enter the lane until the ball hits the rim.
Defense:
Each team must play man-to-man defense. There will be no double-teaming, pressing or stealing off the dribble but stealing off of the pass and fast breaking will be allowed. Man to man defense is considered being within 3 feet of a player. The offensive player must be allowed to completely cross mid-court before defensive pressure is allowed.
Scoring:
Scores will be kept. However, if a team is up by twenty-points the score clock will be turned off and the actual score will be kept at the scorer’s table. The score clock will be turned on when the team who is down by twenty points is within 14 points of the opposing team.
Weather Policy:
Every effort will be made to hold Saturday League Games. In the event school is cancelled due to weather, practices for that evening will be cancelled as well. In case the games need to be cancelled or postponed due to weather issues, please call the Weather Line at 513-852-9011 or check the sports website at www.rcdurrymcasports.com for the latest information. Weather decisions will be made and put on the Weather Line by 7:00AM (game days) or 4:00PM (practice days.)
